Mullein to the rescue – Ear infection oil

No, not the Disney character (Mulan), nor is it the cabaret Moulin Rouge.

Mullein is a plant with beautiful yellow flower on a tall staff that grows wild everywhere.  The leaves are mostly used for upper respiratory problems as in severe cough syrup (here), but the flowers are extremely effective for ear pain (as in inflammation from infection). Add a bit of antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties of garlic and your on your way to a speedy recovery.

Ear ache and tooth aches are among the top 2 complaints for severe pain. And if left untreated can actually damage the ear drum. And one thing I notice is that if a child gets a sinus infection… most assuredly it will move to the ears pretty darn fast if not treated quickly. So having a bottle of this ear oil laying around is essential if your prone to sinus/ear infections.

Very important to note though…this is NOT to be used for swimmers ear or a ruptured ear drum with pus. (sorry for the visual that created). This is middle and inner ear infections and pain.

So the only other ingredient necessary is a carrier oil. The best one for this application is Olive oil, but use what you have.

Crush one clove of garlic, and 1/8 cup of mullein flowers to a small mason jar, then fill with Olive oil. Stir to saturate all ingredients, then cover with lid and shake daily for 6 wks. Strain and store in fridge.

To use, warm the oil gently by placing is a container of hot water. Do not microwave or boil! Just make is mildly warm so its soothing going into the ear. I suggest you test on your wrist as you would a baby bottle.

Dosage: After putting drops, gently apply a cotton ball to prevent any oil from dripping.

Adults: 2-3 drops in both ears every four hours as needed

Child (under 10): 1 drop in each ear every four hours

This may also be used for pets with ear mites and infections.
